FAQ

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO VISIT YOUR STUDIO AND SEE YOUR WORK IN PERSON?

Of course! If you live in the area, or if you’re planning a visit nearby, feel free to contact me and we’ll arrange a time. I always feel that my artwork can be appreciated more by seeing it. Sometimes the difference of what you see on a website vs. what you see in real life just can’t compare.

DID YOU GO TO ART SCHOOL?

No, everything you see on this website is self-taught. I love a lot of different type of art & photography, and I try my best to create something a little bit more unique— things that you don’t necessarily see everyday. I hope you get that same feeling as you browse through my artwork.

HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN INTERESTED IN ART?

Yes, I’ve loved art & creating things for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t until 2019 that I started doing it professionally though. Before then, I spent most of my adult life in the IT field. My mind is quite complicated, so as far as the left-brained vs. right-brained thing— your guess is as good as mine.

CAN I CONTACT YOU, AND WE CAN JUST TALK ABOUT ANYTHING?

Yes. I’m perfectly fine with that. I’d consider myself an introvert, but I’m always happy to share/learn with anyone and everyone.

  • HOW DO YOU DETERMINE THE PRICE FOR YOUR PAINTINGS?

This question gets asked a lot. For me, it all depends on how much time and effort I spend on the painting. Of course, the materials (frame, canvas, paints, etc) all play a part in the final price too, but there are times when I may spend more hours on a smaller piece than a larger one, therefore the price will reflect this. Sometimes, a 16x20 may take me 70+ hours to complete, but a 24x30 may take 50+ hours. If I’m working on a particular section with only several different colors, then I’m able to work faster. Where there is a lot of color or a lot of blending going on, then this typically takes much longer. Also, I tend to work in lots of layers. How much layering a painting requires will also increase the hours, and the cost. One thing is for certain, my paintings will always have a lot of hours put into them. It’s the only way I can get results that are acceptable to me.

WHY ARE ALL OF YOUR PAINTINGS ALREADY FRAMED?

I think a quality frame is just as important as the art itself. I always do my best to pick out a frame that compliments the art perfectly. With my painting style, the edges of the canvas are not smooth, so any type of gallery wrapped canvas or floating frame won’t do. That’s why I usually go with something more ornate. Something that gives it that ‘old world’ style and showcases the painting the way I want it presented. I have the paintings securely mounted into the frames but it’s not permanent if you’d rather replace the frame with one of your own. The paintings are always sold framed though.

DO YOU REALLY WRITE POEMS FOR EACH OF YOUR PAINTINGS?

Yes. I love poetry and want the painting to be able to speak also. I write a poem that matches the painting. It may be as short as 6-8 lines, or up to 25-30 lines. It all depends on how much I feel the painting needs to say. I feel this also brings more of a uniqueness to the piece of art overall. It’s much more than just some paint on a canvas. The poem is printed on a heavy cardstock paper and laminated. I’d like to publish a book with my paintings and poems someday. That’s probably several years away though.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO VISIT YOUR STUDIO AND SEE YOUR WORK IN PERSON?

Of course! If you live in the area, or if you’re planning a visit nearby, feel free to contact me and we’ll arrange a time. I always feel that my artwork can be appreciated more by seeing it. The textures I use in the paintings are difficult to photograph, so seeing it in person is a much more rewarding experience.

DO YOU SELL PRINTS OF YOUR PAINTINGS?

I usually don’t, but I don’t have a rule against it. The painting style that I use is difficult to photograph, so sometimes the painting may look different in a print. If you’d like a print of one of my paintings, contact me and I’ll do my best to make it happen. I’m sure I’d be able to produce something that you’d be more than happy with.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO SHIP A PAINTING?

All paintings (and drawings) over $200 is shipped free (US Only), regardless of size or weight. The ‘Free Shipping’ discount is automatically applied during checkout. The ‘Studio Pickup/Local Delivery’ option is available during checkout for anyone living within a 50 miles radius of my studio in central Kentucky. You can always contact me with other shipping related questions if you have them.

DO YOU SHIP TO ALASKA AND/OR HAWAII?

Yes. The prices of shipping to Alaska and Hawaii vary greatly depending upon size/weight, so please contact me and we’ll work out all of the details. I’ll give you the best price available. I promise!

    DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?

Yes. Please contact me and we’ll work out all of the details. Depending on the painting you’re inquiring about, I may need to crate it for international shipping. This allows much better protection and makes sure the painting leaves my studio and arrives to you in perfect condition.

DO YOU OFFER INSTALLMENT PAYMENT PLANS?

If you see a painting that you like, I want to do what I can to make it yours. Contact me and we can always work something out. I don’t ever want costs to get in the way of something that you love.

DO YOU HAVE A RETURN POLICY?

All sales are final. Saying that, please contact me beforehand if you have any questions about any painting you see on the website. I can send you multiple pictures from different angles, with different lighting, etc, to make sure that you end up with something that you’ll love and adore. I also have all measurements listed on the website if you have any questions about the size of a painting.

IS SOME OF YOUR ARTWORK ALSO AVAILABLE THROUGH GALLERIES?

Occasionally, but I tend to do most of my business through my website. This allows me to be upfront with you about pricing and answer any other questions directly. If my artwork is on loan or currently displayed in a gallery, it will be noted on the product page for that particular painting. My blog also contains information about any past or upcoming events concerning my art. If you work for a gallery and would like to present my art, or just borrow it temporarily for display, please feel free to contact me.

    DO YOU ACCEPT COMMISSIONED PROJECTS?

No. My painting style is vastly different than what you’d normally see, so I need to retain full artistic control of what I create. For this reason, I can’t accept commissions, otherwise I’m not being true to myself.

  • HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT YOU’D LIKE TO DRAW VS. PAINT?

Sometimes it’s difficult to decide, but most of the time I know right away. If I feel that a drawing is not going to express the subject in the way that I would like, then painting it is absolutely necessary. This way, I can use lots of vivid colors, textures, etc. I try to keep the drawings simple, yet unique, and there are times that this works and times it doesn’t. There are also times when I know that I’d lose myself in a painting and never be satisfied with it. With this being the case, sketching it out on paper is a much more feasible and less stressful route.

DO YOU USE PHOTOS FOR REFERENCE OR ARE THEY DONE LIVE?

I’d say that 80% of my drawings are done from photos— either my own or those with a CC-0 License. The remaining 20% are done live.

DO YOU FRAME ALL OF YOUR DRAWINGS?

I tend to frame most of them, because like my paintings, I believe a beautiful frame (and sometimes mat) are part of the art also. Occasionally, I may leave them raw and unframed. It all depends on the subject.

WHAT TYPE OF PAPER/SUPPLIES DO YOU USE FOR YOUR DRAWINGS?

I love Strathmore paper(s), but I also use other brands too (depending on the size). The texture of the paper plays a big part in the drawing process. If I want to do a lot of blending, then a smoother surface is needed, other times a rougher texture gives that raw look that I’m after. As for drawing utensils, I love Conté à Paris crayons, charcoal, color pencil(s), and ultra-fine tip pens.

DO YOU INCLUDE POEMS & COA’S WITH YOUR DRAWINGS?

I only write poems for my paintings, but a COA is included with all of my original work, i.e. paintings, limited edition prints, and drawings.

  • WHERE DO YOU GET THE PHOTOS FOR YOUR PRINTS?

All of the photos are my own, that I’ve taken over the years. They are a collection of a lifetime of work. I’ve always loved photography just as much as I love painting. I wanted a way to share them, so I’ve decided to make them available for sale on the website.

WHY ARE SOME OF YOUR PRINTS AVAILABLE AS LIMITED EDITION AND OTHERS AS OPEN EDITION?

The limited edition photos were captured at very special times in my life, and mean a lot to me personally. That’s not to say that the open edition photos don’t, but the ones I use for my limited edition series are my ‘treasures’. Saying that, I spend many hours on each photo, making sure that everything is absolutely perfect. By limiting the photographs that mean the most to me to only 100 prints, it’s a way to keep them special forever.

CAN I CHOOSE WHICH NUMBER OF PRINT THAT I WANT?

Yes, as long as that number is still available. I often have people asking for a particular number in a series. Some numbers have a more special meaning for people. If you don’t require a particular number in the set of 100, then I’ll ship you the lowest number available. Contact me before purchasing if you have any questions.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR EACH LIMITED EDITION PRINT?

The limited edition prints are available as either a framed print (on photo paper and a single mat), or a metal print with a stunning gloss finish. I also have a third option (not listed on the site), which is a metal print with resin embellishments. Please contact me for more information about ordering this type of print. It requires a couple of weeks to complete since most of the work is done by hand. The embellished prints are some of my favorites.

ARE THE LIMITED EDITION PRINTS AVAILABLE IN ONLY THREE SIZES?

Yes, the limited edition prints are only available in three sizes. This keeps the limited run precise and true, and is only fair to you, the buyer.

DO YOU WRITE POEMS FOR THE PRINTS LIKE YOU DO FOR YOUR PAINTINGS?

No, I only write poems for the paintings. The paintings take a very long time and actually speak to me a lot during the creation process. For this reason, I only write poems for them, so that they can speak to you also.

DO YOU OFFER COA’S FOR YOUR PRINTS?

Yes, each limited edition print comes with its own COA. The COA includes the print name, date that it was created, the number in the series, and is signed by me.

DO YOU HAVE A RETURN POLICY?

All sales are final. If you have any questions about my available prints, please contact me and I’ll be more than happy to send you more photos of the print (different lighting, angles, etc), so that you know you’re making the right decision when purchasing.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OPEN VS. LIMITED EDITION PRINTS?

The limited edition photos hold a very special place in my heart. I love my open edition prints also, but the limited edition photographs were captured at very special times in my life. The post processing work that I spend on both is basically equal, but I wanted to divide the two into separate editions for personal reasons.

ARE THE OPEN EDITION PRINTS SIGNED?

No, I don’t sign the open edition prints. Signing open edition prints is not typically done. If you’d like a digital signature added to the print, contact me before ordering, and I’ll include the signature on the print.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE THREE OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR EACH OPEN EDITION PRINT?

The open edition prints are available as either a framed print (on photo paper and a single mat), a metal print with a stunning gloss finish, or on canvas.

ARE THE OPEN EDITION PRINTS AVAILABLE IN ONLY THREE SIZES?

Mostly yes, but it all depends on the print in question. Some prints I have available in higher resolutions, so I can have them printed much larger (or smaller) if you’d like. Please contact me about different sizes if you have a particular print in mind. The price will vary depending on smaller/larger prints.

DO YOU OFFER COA’S FOR YOUR OPEN EDITION PRINTS?

I only offer COA’s for the limited edition prints. This is because they are more scarce and limited to 100 copies each. There isn’t a set number on the amount of open edition prints that can be created.

DO YOU SHIP TO ALASKA AND/OR HAWAII?

Yes. The prices of shipping to Alaska and Hawaii vary greatly depending upon size/weight, so please contact me and we’ll work out all of the details. I’ll give you the best price available. I promise!
