A Girl Of A Different Kind - Original Oil Painting

Rapt in the pages of wonder
Each letter, each word, each page
Curiosity filled her old soul
She was more than just her age

While others could be found playing
To her, that happiness was here
She found peace in the solitude
As long as her books were near

The stories were more than just stories
Each became part of her heart
The adventures would leap from the pages
From this world she’d never depart

Friends are for the lonely
Enchanting lore is all she requires
To live like those in the pages
For these are the ones she admires

That sunset lasted forever
It had shined all it could shine
And under it sat a dreamer
A girl of a different kind

Alone, amongst the blooms of a redbud tree, and the blues of an iris. All she needs, or cares about, is her books and the world that awaits inside of them.

I wanted to do another painting of the little girl reading, from Dreaming About A Life To Come. This particular painting started out as one thing, and I found myself continually adding different elements to it. The background is done in the same green as Dreaming About A Life To Come, with some rust colored paint on the top half of the canvas that gives the illusion of a sunset. I did some brushwork for some of the finer details, but the rest of the painting is done in the thick impasto style that I typically use. The impasto parts of the painting are already thick, but the irises and redbud flowers really pop from the painting, creating a three dimensional look. I’m extremely happy with the way that everything turned out.

The painting is mounted in a beautiful golden ornate frame, with a linen liner, and golden fillet. The contrast between the painting and the frame work perfectly together.
