Now, Let Me Go - Original Oil Painting

Canvas size 24x18 (overall framed size is approximately 33x27)

As my mind would began to race,
And the confusion quickly set in
I knew of only one place,
It was a place I’d often been

It was a field of nothing special,
But near that I could wander
Amongst the grass I’d nestle,
And on my thoughts I’d ponder

Lying within the tall grass,
And purple flowers so lovely
Wishing the feelings to pass,
Getting lost in clouds above me

This tranquil place offered reprieve,
Of which my soul would yearn,
And the equanimity I received,
Allowed me a page to finally turn

Now, let me go, I tell the flowers,
And to the grass of which I just lied
I may be back at some other hour,
But for now, I say goodbye

To clear my head, I often walk back through the fields behind my home. During the summer, the fields are always blanketed by a beautiful purple Ironweed. During the late afternoon, as the sun gets lower in the sky, it feels like you’re walking in a dream.

A palette knife was used on approximately 99% of this painting. Each stroke would build the layers thicker and thicker. I added a flowing sky to give it more of that dreamlike feel that happens during the later hours of the day. The purple that I used for the Ironweed stands out more depending on the light that is hitting the painting, almost the same way that actual Ironweed reacts to light during the day.

It’s mounted in a golden/rustic, wooden ornate frame. I feel it matches the painting perfectly. This was one of the more difficult paintings that I’ve photographed, so be sure to watch the video for a closer look. The detail, deep palette knife grooves, and texture cause the colors to change quite a bit depending on the light.
