The Color Of Lilacs - Original Oil Painting

Canvas size 22x28 (overall framed size is approximately 29x35)

I had imagined it a dream
Or was it all playing out in time
The colors I saw so brilliant
Each so vivid within my mind

I had fancied something extraordinary
A feast not only for ones eyes
But one for all of the senses
And for the beauty that it implies

The purples so magnificent
The pinks, the warmth it does show
The whites strike a kind balance
All three, an elegance they compose

The colors so undeniable
Its existence I knew to be true
I wanted to share it with everyone
No longer did I need to pursue

If a dream, would it be less fortunate
The colors, clearly my mind did see
I’m glad now that it wasn’t
For it would have only belonged to me

When I started this painting, I never knew there were seven different colors of lilacs. I went back to the same style that I painted The Solitude Of Sunflowers in. I like painting like this because it’s easy to make the colors flow how I want them, while still using thick layers that add lots of depth to the painting. This painting took approximate six weeks to complete. To be honest, I completely lost track of the amount of hours. I estimate there are ~65,000 daubs from the small palette knife that I used for the entire painting. It’s mounted in a golden/silver ornate frame. The frame and painting are a perfect match, in my opinion. I’m extremely happy with the way everything turned out. It has quickly became one of my favorite pieces.

The overall size of this painting (with the frame) is quite large, so it works perfectly positioned above a fireplace mantel, couch, or bed. Or a large wall that needs some color.
